Description:

IITM is a premiere research Institute to generate scientific knowledge in the field of meteorology and atmospheric sciences that has potential application in various fields such as agriculture, economics, health, water resources, transportation, communications, etc. It function as a national centre for basic and applied research in monsoon meteorology

Applications are invited from bright and motivated young candidates for the temporary post of Junior Research Fellow as per the following details:

Essential Qualifications:
M.Sc./M.Tech. in Atmospheric Sciences/Physics/Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering/ Meteorology/ Applied Mathematics/ Geophysics/ Chemistry/ Electronics from a recognized university /institution. NET/GATE qualified candidates will be given preference.

Desirable Qualifications:
1) Post-1: Good knowledge of working in LINUX /UNIX system and Fortran programming skill along with WINDOWS. Scope of work: Requires helping in development and running the chemistry transport air quality forecasting model and preparation of input data library.
2) Post-2: Good knowledge of computer usage in Windows and software packages. Knowledge of Geographic information system (GIS) software is highly desirable. Scope of the work: Development of emission inventory of pollutants and GHGs.
3) Post-3: Good knowledge of computer usage and software packages, air pollution analysers and automatic weather stations. Scope of the work: To help in observational network, assimilation of meteorological and air quality data on routine basis and analysis.

Age Limit : 28 years as on 1.6.2009.

Stipend : Rs. 12000/- plus HRA (performance based enhancement after 2 years).

Tenure : 2 years which can be extendable further based on satisfactory performance. The candidate may register for Ph. D.

Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for physically handicapped and as per rule for ex-servicemen.
